GRRR! Augmented reality app launches with competition

The Rolling Stones have launched an innovative, global augmented reality campaign and an exclusive competition for the band’s GRRR! greatest hits collection.

Spanning five continents, 50 cities and 3000+ locations around the world, buildings including landmarks such as Big Ben in London, Tokyo’s Skytree and the Sydney Opera House have been tagged with a variety of King Kong-style virtual 3D gorillas, modeled on the GRRR! album artwork, making this the biggest global Augmented Reality music campaign to date.

Over the last four weeks, fans all over the world have been invited to download the free uView App in preparation for the announcement of GRRR!

From today, fans can use the app to find their nearest tagged location and to watch the stunning GRRR! artwork fully realized in 3D animation right before their eyes. Users will also be treated to some exciting content and have the chance to enter an exclusive competition plus pre-order a copy of GRRR!

Fans that don’t live in or near a participating city can still get involved. The GRRR! cover and the Rolling Stones’ famous tongue and lips logo have also been tagged to trigger 3D animations.

In order to enter the exclusive competition take photographs of the 3D Gorilla animations in action and share them via Twitter @RollingStones including #GRRR! in their Tweet, or alternatively email photos to grrr@rollingstones.com.

These photos will be posted on an interactive Fan Wall at rollingstones.com/grrr-home. 50 of the best entries from around the world will be chosen to win some fantastic prizes, including two very special secret prizes to be revealed…

GRRR! will be released on 12th November 2012 for the world, excluding North America, and on the 13th November 2012 in North America.
