/news/news.php?uid=690

Keith Richards duets with country star George Jones on the title track of Jones' recently released Burn Your Playhouse Down: The Unreleased Duets. The album, out on Bandit Records, features never-before-released duets
between Jones and a host of varied musicians recorded over the last five decades.

Keith first met George Jones when the Rolling Stones shared a bill with him in 1964 on their first tour of the
US. Three decades later, Keith took a break from the band's 1994 mixing sessions for Voodoo Lounge to record "Say It's Not You" for Jones' album, The Bradley Barn Sessions.

Now, 14 years later, fans can again enjoy the interplay between the two. Click here to get your copy of Burn Your Playhouse Down: The Unreleased Duets or download the title track from Amazon or iTunes.

 /news/news.php?uid=688

On June 9, 1978, The Rolling Stones released Some Girls, re-establishing their reputation as the pre-eminent rock 'n' roll band of their time.

In an era dominated by punk and disco, Some Girls managed to absorb the sound and swagger of both while reclaiming lost ground for rock 'n' roll and belonging entirely to the Stones. No small feat and neither was what would follow.

Some Girls shot to #1 on the US charts and #2 in the UK upon its release and the album's first single, "Miss You" - with its pulsing drums and Sugar Blue's wailing harmonica - became the band's eighth #1 single in the US and a staple of the band's live show for the next 30 years. Many of the other tracks on Some Girls would go on to be released as singles - "Beast Of Burden", "Respectable", "Shattered" - and even more would work their way into the band's set lists in the years to follow. Fans will take note that the band's recently released, Martin Scorsese-directed concert film, "Shine A Light," featured more songs from Some Girls than any other one album in the band's catalogue.

In the end, Some Girls' greatest legacy may not be what it brought to the world, but what it brought to The Rolling Stones, in the form of Ron Wood. The studio sessions, and proceeding 25 date tour of the US, marked the beginning of Ron Wood's fulltime appointment to the band and, 30 years later, no one's looked back.

In honor of 30 years come and gone, The Rolling Stones official store is pleased to announce a special 30 hour anniversary sale. Beginning on June 9 at Noon EST and lasting until June 10 at 6 PM EST, all items in the Some Girls department will be 30% off in honor of 30 years of Some Girls.

Celebrate 30 years in style - get your Some Girls merchandise while the anniversary sale lasts.

And enjoy our brief look back on Some Girls through the years, complete with quotes from the band, a bit of memorabilia and a mix of live and promotional videos. Members of RollingStones.com are invited to weigh in on the legacy of Some Girls on the message boards all this week.

"There aren't any filler tracks on this album. The band was most aware of avoiding that. From the start we KNEW the album was going to be full of strong tracks. Anything slightly dodgy was shelved. I know people expect this album to be great. And I don't think anyone will be disappointed." - Ron Wood, 1978

"Some Girls was kind of like Beggars Banquet. Like we'd been away for a bit, and we came back with a bang." - Keith Richards, 1982
Some Girls was not without its fair share of controversy. Lucille Ball, Marilyn Monroe and others protested the use of their images on the cover, and ultimately the band put their own faces in place of the famous women. The original cover finally saw the light of day with the Virgin re-release of Some Girls in 1994, and has since gone on to grace a variety of Rolling Stones products over the years, including a Some Girls puzzle.
"It was a really great record. I seem to like records that have one overriding mood with lots of little offshoots. Even though there's a lot of bases covered, there's lots of straight-ahead rock and roll. It's very brass-edged. It's very Rolling Stones, not a lot of frills." - Mick Jagger, 1995
So throw on your Some Girls LP, or get your copy from iTunes, and groove to Sugar Blue's wailing harmonica on "Miss You," and be sure to head over to The Rolling Stones official store to celebrate 30 years in style.
/news/news.php?uid=687

On July 29, Paramount Home Entertainment will release Shine A Light, the much heralded concert film from Academy Award®-winner Martin Scorsese and The Rolling Stones, on Blu-ray and DVD. Filmed during The Rolling Stones' historic 2006 two-night stand at the legendary Beacon Theatre, Shine A Light thrilled audiences in theatres and IMAX across the map earlier this year before making its debut for the home theatre.

Along with a brand new featurette with a behind-the-scenes look at The Stones rehearsing on stage at New York's Beacon Theater, candid moments with the band and celebrity guests and archival footage not included in the feature film, the Blu-ray and DVD release of Shine A Light will come to viewer's homes with four never-before-seen bonus performances from the historic run, including "Paint It Black," "Little T&A," "I'm Free" and "Undercover of the Night."

Whether you missed Shine A Light in theatres or just want to relive the action from the comfort of your couch, be sure to get your copy of the movie Jeffrey Lyons called "one of the most thrilling films in years" and the New York Times labeled as "a rip-roaring concert documentary."
/news/news.php?uid=682

USA Today discusses Shine A Light with Martin Scorsese and Mick Jagger.

Early in Shine a Light, assistant director Joe Reidy warns his boss about a searing special effect deployed during Sympathy for the Devil: "If Mick stands in front of the light for more than 18 seconds, he's going to burn."

Martin Scorsese ponders this.

"You mean, like, flames?" he says. "We cannot burn Mick Jagger."

Ultimately, the singer gets pressure-cooked but not charbroiled by the scalding lights trained on the Rolling Stones in Scorsese's documentary, opening Friday in theaters and on 93 IMAX screens.
/news/news.php?uid=681

Newsweek reports:

Can you picture yourself at age 60 doing what you're doing now?" asks Dick Cavett of Mick Jagger in a 1972 TV interview. "Easily. Yeah," replies the soft-spoken, impossibly sexy rock star. Back then, of course, nobody knew what a 60-year-old rock-and-roller looked like--the question itself implied that the notion was comical. Cut to the stage of the Beacon Theatre in New York in the fall of 2006, where Martin Scorsese and a team of 17 cinematographers captured the Rolling Stones for Scorsese's dynamite concert film "Shine a Light." The eloquent creases in Jagger's face testify to his 62 years, but the crazily lean, prancing and spinning body tearing up the stage is, if anything, even more exuberant than the boy I remember setting ablaze the Boston Garden in 1965. If there's comedy in it, it's the sweet smile of survival that lights up Keith Richards's grandly depraved face--he looks more and more like a Tolkien tree creature who's gathered a lot of moss. Or the ageless dexterity of Ronnie Wood's finger work--and his undying devotion to his Rod Stewart shag cut. Or the look of winded amazement on Charlie Watts's poker face after the group has polished off an incredible smoking version of "She's So Hot."

That 1982 song from "Undercover," the third in their set after "Jumpin' Jack Flash" and "Shattered," may be the least-known song on the playlist, but it's the moment when "Shine a Light" totally takes off--check out the erotic body language between Mick and backup singer Lisa Fisher--and Scorsese delivers a Stones concert film of shimmering intimacy. "Shine a Light" has a few tasty backstage glimpses of Scorsese and the Stones preparing for the gig (the co-host that night is none other than Bill Clinton). There are snippets from early press conferences with Jagger and Richards and Watts, playing coy ingénues to the inevitably square men who ask them the inevitably clueless questions about Youthful Rebellion.
The April 17 issue of Rolling Stone Magazine features interviews with Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and their Shine A Light collaborator, Jack White. Get a sneak peek of their coverage before it hits newsstands:

Rolling Stone Magazine: In your mind, what's the difference between the Stones we see in this movie versus the Stones in, say, 1972?

Mick Jagger: Much older [laughs]! I'm still singing the same old songs, you know. It's just a more matured style of playing, with maybe some of the more extravagant edges taken out. You know, the band -- they were very inconsistent back then. They would do a fantastic show one night, fucking raise the roof and be amazing, and the next night they would do a terrible show, where the tempos are wildly wrong -- too fast, too slow, terrible train wrecks and awful mistakes. Now it's a much more consistent-playing group.

Rolling Stone Magazine: Keith, what do you think of "Shine a Light"?

Keith Richards: I'm just seeing what Marty Scorsese sees in the Stones. I was never aware of the cameras. I knew they were there. But once you go to work, your job is to give the audience what they want and, at the same time, get yourself off. I've no doubt that Mick was far more aware that he was making a movie. But once I get going, I just look at Charlie.

I've always been amazed by how much fuss goes on around us -- the big screens, the technology. And it has to be coordinated. Mick loves to coordinate. But I'm selfish. I gotta feel good. I can't go up there worrying about things. I go onstage to get some fucking peace and quiet.
/news/news.php?uid=679

Reporting by Herald Sun

The Rolling Stones have had a ban from a British seaside town lifted. 44 years after they were banished from Blackpool after one of their concerts ended in a riot.

During their performance at the Empress Ballroom in 1964, fans smashed crystal chandeliers, tore up seats and trashed a grand piano, while hurling bottles and stones.

Around 50 members of the audience had to be treated in hospital and the rockers were told they could never return.

But present Blackpool council leader Peter Callow has said the band are now welcome back to the resort.

He said: "We are writing to the group to say the ban has been lifted and they are welcome to play here again."
/news/news.php?uid=670

The Rolling Stones have announced that Universal Music Group (UMG) will release the band's next album, the soundtrack album from director Martin Scorsese's film Shine A Light, worldwide in March 2008. The album will come out on Interscope Records in the U.S. and Polydor Records in the U.K.

Shine A Light, set for theatrical release in April 2008, was shot at The Rolling Stones' acclaimed performances at New York's Beacon Theatre in the autumn of 2006. With special guests Buddy Guy, White Stripes' Jack White and Christine Aguilera joining the Stones onstage, the Oscar-winning director captured two once-in-a-lifetime performances from the band. The film also integrates rarely seen archival footage of the Stones for a unique cinema experience.

A spokesman for The Rolling Stones said, "The band are looking forward to working with Universal Music and are excited about this new venture."
