Tour of Europe 76 In Detail
Starting in (West) Germany at the end of April, the tour meandered around the continent, taking in dates in Belgium, England, Scotland and Holland, before ducking back into Germany.
Four gigs at Les Abattoirs in Paris followed: these were recorded and form part of 1977's Love You Live. Next the Stones went south to Barcelona for a night, popped back up to Nice fora night, hopped over to the Hallenstadion in Zurich, Switzerland for a one night stand on June 15th, played three more German dates, two in communist Yugoslavia and finished off the tour in Vienna on June 23rd.
“When the Stones come on stage you suddenly understand it. It's a kind of sorcery, and completely impossible to describe. Like an expression of the life force or something, I dunno.”
James Phillips, 1976
This tour was marked with a shadow: the death of Keith and Anita's 10 week-old-son, Tara. So it goes.
