Following the River
About this video
Directed by Julian Gibbs, “Following the River” is an atmospheric blend of film, animation and archive footage. Follow the river, and take a ride from Chicago to the Deep South. Dreamy, nostalgic sepia production enhances Nicky Hopkins’ melancholy piano, while Mick sings with pain and gratitude of love slipping away.
The video charts in reverse the journey many musicians made from the South to Chicago, the spiritual home of the Blues. By road, by train, by Greyhound, along the Mississippi itself, the people travel, following the river to their own journey’s end.

“" Melhor banda de rock de todos os tempos, músicas maneiras que desde pequeno escuto com meu pai, através do Álbum Let it bleed, uma fita que meu pai tem e eu ouço direto. Para min nunca haverá uma banda igual, a melhor música vem ser Gimme Shelter. Tomare que continue por muitos anos essa banda íncrivel. Parabéns por encantarem gerações. The Greyhound Bus Station gave Lukowski the same feeling he would get in jail, grey. Most people riding buses couldn't afford to fly, being at the bottom of the food chain. Figaro had the usual first aid kit of dope and booze in his duffle bag. In the early eighties you could ride a Greyhound with any kind of dope you wanted, because you weren't driving. The secret of successful Greyhound Bus riding was to keep your mouth shut, but be discerning when you did start up a conversation. You could keep a nice buzz on. Bring plenty of brown heroin, symmetrically snorted with gulps of Vodka. Locowski would buy a can of King Edward snuff, empty it, and put heroin in. Goin down South, bus window open, blowing sweet air in face, in reverie, fantasia and REM. Pleasing the mind, more than a plane ride on Nazi Airways could ever do.
Ebony sisters were the sable queens of the buses. I think it had to do with their marevelous purebreed genes, look at Ray Charle's mother, she loved the blind child like a RAY of moonlight, raising him to soften the worlds heart, the blessed black jesus. Lucowski at times would ride the bus for hundreds of miles, tweaking out on herion, drinking vodka with sable sisters, even making out with and enjoying jasmine scent of sweet sisterhood.
FLs Greyhound was already in Texas seven days latter. For Lucowski it was: A Greyhound in hooplets that would expand slowly at a snales pace, navigating the United States. As he looked out the open window, blinded slightly in opium vapor, he was a white black man, RAY, feeling sable sisters wrist and loving, smelling desert and tropic air, seeing yellow haze and red Georgian mud outside, but sometime going deep inside himself.”

It is like driving in a car across America after shooting junk. It has the deep soul of gospel music, of black cocoa and pussy. It is the last road trip that could only be in a dream. I could watch it dying on the way out, and be at peace.

I am just wuondiring, Was in the news Jagger talk about drogs to make drogs free, I do not understand with so much money and media, how a person still think about the same think for all his life, and his massage still much focus on drugs and alchool. Does The yeang generation really need this? This is a old concept of his on experience, I am desapointed that e still helping and influence people to take drogs with his massages, I am really desapointed that he does not about a real conscience, about the real state of being as a happy human being with no drugs. Is a shame that he did not change any think in his on life, no signal of spiritual development in the band. My question is: Do you think Jagger you really collaborated for some think new, beside drugs and rock roll?
Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Fri, 2010-05-28 14:13.Is every think the same and old, in my point of view. And very selfish, is a negative way to sale more his music.

Submitted by Michele (not verified) on Mon, 2010-05-24 22:10.“The great thing about Voodoo Lounge is it didn't sound like they were pandering to anyone, or trying to 'sound like the Stones', which I think they've been guilty of from time to time, especially Dirty Work and Steel Wheels. Both solid albums, but somewhat contrived and forced into the 'stones formula'. That's the beauty of Exile, this is just a bunch of great musicians making great music, without any preconceived plans, apparently.
I'd like to see a great new Stones album created with this attitude. I don't want a great blues album or a great country album or a great rock album. I just want a great album, period.
Ultimately, I hope they go into the studio and have fun. If they enjoy the music that comes out of the experience, I'm sure Stones fans will also. ”

I have been listnin to Big Walter lately, realizing how much suffering heart he played into his music, (talking harp I think Mick Jagger is one of the all time great harp players as well). The Rolling Stones and their adherance to the tradition of Chicago Blues, the 1-4-5 chord progressions have been a part of my love for the blues all along. Many a dark and lonely night, I'd fire up a lovely ganja splib and listen to all this people and take it home to my heart. Lets see, Christ Almighty, it's been 45 years of regular listnin to the Rolling Stones, I do love all categories of music though. I want to thank, the whole gene pool, the whole fuckin line of mothers and fathers, brothers and sisters who put the amazing creation of "The Greatest Rocking Roll Band in The World" together, like a miracle dropped upon us , sweet brothers I think you were dropped from fucking Mars. ~FL”
